Jonathan Smith named Head of Recruitment

The Club can announce that Jonathan Smith has been appointed as the Club’s new Head of Recruitment, after being promoted from his role as Lead Scout for the North.
Former Chorley assistant manager Jonathan was first appointed to the scouting team by the Club in the Summer, alongside Matt Jansen and Kevin Braybook. He takes up this new role with immediate effect, and will be replaced in his current role by Karl Newton.
Director of Football Simon Wilson said:
“We have been pleased with our recruitment overall to date, however realise that to improve further we have to become more detailed in our analysis and filtering of players. As such, we have identified the need for the new role which Jonathan has shown in his time here to date he is well placed for.
“In his role, Jonathan will manage our area scouts Kevin Braybrook in the South, and Karl Newton in the North, and be a more visible figure through the week at Carrington working closely with me, Simon Rusk and Damien Allen.”
Head of Recruitment Jonathan Smith said:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 12 months at County and would like to put on record my thanks and appreciation to everyone involved at the club for making me feel so welcome.
“The history of the club combined with the quality of infrastructure and investment makes this an exciting opportunity for myself personally. As a recruitment team we will be relentless in our pursuit of identifying the right targets in key areas, that will bring balance and quality to what is an already professional and talented group of players.”
The accounts due by the end of the month will give an initial indication of how Stott's money has been introduced to the Club, (but only for the period to June 2020). What has happened beyond then will not become apparent for another 12 months.
I know that I am pretty much a lone voice in this debate, (and each to his / her own of course), but I fail to get excited about the prospect of buying silverware. It's hardly an achievement in my book. I spent a working life growing a business organically, and will never be swayed from that approach being the right way.
@57-hatters-years it would seem that the role provided would put Jansen out of a job unless he's moved to a different role within the club.
Absolutely it will be costing a hell of a lot, but it's worth it if it's done above board and doesn't put the club's finances at risk etc.
So what has happened to Jansen? Effectively Smith has taken on his role ... unless of course they are both doing it .. and that would hardly be a surprise with money and jobs seemingly being no object.
This Karl Newton was Head of Recruitment at Fylde until recently. He's based in the North East (seems to be running some junior teams up there). Fylde have just advertised for a replacement at up to £40k for 2 days a week and watching games around the country
I personally think this is eye-watering stuff - Rusk, Conlon, McGhee, Jalal, Wilson, Smith, Braybrook, Newton, Allen, Raynes, Turnbull all on the football side. What kind of cost does that involve if what Fylde are paying is the going rate....
The economics of the madhouse ... imho
