I’m caught in the middle here, agree with both views. Brilliant signing in terms of ability and experience, however a 3 year deal for a 33 year old is a bit of a red flag especially given that Madden, Sarcevic etc were not given new extensions. He should be a key addition for us but we thought that with Powell, i’m also a bit worried and hoping he’s not injury prone as if so we’re stuck with an unsalable asset on big wages and won’t be able to shift him on. Hopefully he proves to be an inspired signing tho and take us to League One Champions.

Mangan to Marid?@Hatter93 Certainly out there having said that i’m sure stranger things have happened. If there’s anything in it then it would be hard to stand in his way and would be a great opportunity for him personally. Part of me hopes it is genuine and he does go as it’ll show that being at County can be a brilliant stepping stone move for both players and backroom staff alike. In result maybe being able to use that to beat other clubs to players and staff in the future.

Bristol Rovers (H) - Match Thread@admin I agree with pretty much everything you’ve just said there. Powell looks like an extremely relaxed (can sometimes look not bothered) player most of the time and i think the injuries probably made him feel less a part of last seasons success which i’d understand. Hope he shows what he can do this season because the thought of him playing as a 10 spraying passes into Barry and Tanto is frightening.
Stretton is on borrowed time rightly or wrongly, i can’t remember anything from him other than the Salford goal you mentioned. Mellon’s injury probably has kept Stretton here this season and it’s interesting to think how different the season could’ve started had Mellon been fit and Tanto not being inured, maybe Wootton would’ve been moved and as you say Stretton loaned out.

Bristol Rovers (H) - Match Thread@Hatter93 I agree it’s a shame because he’s a quality player we just haven’t seen it enough, can’t see him here beyond this season anyway. Stretton’s last chance 100% hopefully he can have an impact this season, still think there’s a gap in the team from Madden so anyone can step up and make it their own unless we add another striker which could happen. Wootton is thriving off being the main man again and not in the shadow by Madden, be interesting to see how Chally manages the attack once Mellon’s back and Tanto’s 100% back up to speed.

Mansfield (A) - Match ThreadGoing with a 2-2 draw, our record isn’t great against Mansfield and they know us better than most in this league. Think this could be a really good game for a League One neutral and a bit of a nervy one for both sets of fans.
I expect a relatively unchanged team from Bristol last weekend and hopefully come away with a point minimum. If we get a point and Barry keeps his scoring up it’ll be another really positive weekend i reckon.

Accrington (A) - EFL Trophy - Match ThreadPositives for individuals such as Stretton, wasn’t the best game and i think 4-1 slightly flatters us but we were miles better in the second half and players came on and had an impact too like Barry and Camps. Overall a good run out just gutted there’s no match for 11 days now.

Kyle Wootton signs new dealAnd i thought we were signing Norwood, on Wootton makes sense we knew that talks would take place and a 3 year deal protects his value. Started the season well too so all in all good deal for both parties.

Bristol Rovers (H) - Match ThreadIs anyone aware of the injury situation before Chally speaks on Friday? Expecting Powell back and maybe a week too early for Rydel & Stretton, no more players back other than that I’m guessing.

4 IN A ROW? Mansfield Town vs Stockport County EFL League One Preview -
Bristol Rovers (H) - Match Thread@BlueArmy I get the impression Powell is slightly misunderstood, might just be case of him playing in the wrong era perhaps might’ve thrived more or been more appreciated in a time when players in his position had more creative freedom and less defensive responsibilities. People often say players like Matt Le Tissier were a player of their time and wouldn’t cut it in today’s era.
Stretton is an interesting one, handed a new deal this summer but been out for a long time, we need someone to step up into the Madden role and chip in with goals and there’s no reason he can’t come back and grab that role.

Steve Bruce takes over at BlackpoolFor League One it’s actually probably a very decent appointment, he’s had promotions before as a manager maybe just not Premier League level, be interesting to see how he does especially after so long out. Reckon he would’ve spoke to ex team mate Mark Hughes prior to accepting the job as he was Bradford manager for a while.
